Collegium Novum Zurich

In its Zurich concert series and guest performances, the Collegium Novum Zurich focuses on contemporary music, setting out deliberately to relate it not only to older music, but also to other fields of artistic endeavour.

Founded in 1993, the Collegium Novum Zurich seeks to promote contemporary music in innovative ways and to perform it to a high standard.
At the same time, it relates the music of our own times to that of past epochs.
In its artistic endeavours, it gives high importance to direct contact with composers and to exchanges with the Zurich College of Music and Theatre. The Collegium is made up of 25 soloists and its flexible structure enables it to produce everything from solo to full ensemble performances.

Swiss Re has been the Collegium Novum Zurich’s principal sponsor since 1999 and will be giving special support to the “Brockenhaus Music Salon” series of concerts in the 2007/2008 season. The Zurich Brockenhaus will serve as a salon in which works by five different composers will be performed over five successive evenings. The Brockenhaus’ special atmosphere and the music of Robert Schumann, Igor Stravinsky, Felix Mendelssohn, Ernst Krenek and Max Reger guarantee a concert experience involving all the senses. The programmes will feature not only familiar works, but also rarely-performed ones, and will bring the performers and the public into direct contact with one another. And if, after the concert, you feel like buying the chair you’ve been sitting on, you will be welcome to do so …
