Swiss Re Milizpreis / Civilian Service Prize 2007
The Civilian Service Prize was created in 2000 by Ulrich Bremi through a generous Swiss Re share endowment. Since 2001, the Prize is awarded annually to one or several personalities who have made outstanding contributions to a common cause in parallel to their professional activities.
On the occasion of Swiss Re’s Annual General Meeting 2007, Peter Forstmoser conferred the Civilian Service Prize 2007 (Milizpreis) to the brothers Dr. Daniel Heini and Dr. Claude Heini. The Prize recognizes both brothers’ longstanding and strong commitment to the development of the Swiss Hunger Project. Both brothers have been actively engaged in this project since the 1990s, working in parallel to their professional careers which both are pursuing at UBS, Daniel Heini in the function of Regional Counsel for Latin America of Global Wealth Management and Business Banking, and Claude Heini as Head Business Learning, Education & Development.
The Swiss Hunger Project was created in 1983. It is part of the Global Hunger Project. Daniel Heini is President of the Assocation “Swiss Hunger Project”. Claude Heini is its Vice President. The Association’s activities are focusing on raising funds in support of the activities of the Global Hunger Project whose primary goal is to overcome chronic hunger in developing countries. According to the annual report for 2005, the Swiss Hunger Project raised over CHF 250’000.- in that year alone.
The activities of the Swiss Hunger Project thus support one of the United Nation’s Millenium Goals, namely to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger by 2015.
In tackling its challenging task, the Hunger Project pursues:
- the development of programmes with catalyst effect which strengthen individual responsibility and promote existing potential
- the strengthening of the position of women, e.g. by enabling access to microcredits
- the long-term consolidation of the results of development cooperation through market economy-based frameworks.
