Swiss Re wins 2004 Asia Reinsurer of the Year Award

25 November 2004, Thailand

Swiss Re has won this year's Asian Reinsurer of the Year Award, organized by the industry magazines Asia Insurance Review and The Review.

The Award was presented at a dinner held in Bangkok on November 20, 2004, and which attracted close to 600 leading members of Asia's insurance and related industries. This is the fourth time in the Award's eight year history that Swiss Re has been named Reinsurer of the Year.
In accepting the award, Swiss Re Asia Division CEO Pierre Ozendo thanked the company's 600 Asia-Pacific staff for their hard work and dedication, and reconfirmed Swiss Re's commitment to clients in the Asia region.
Award judges, who this year included leading Asian regulators, regional and multinational insurers, as well as representatives from leading international trade bodies, applauded Swiss Re for continuing to show leadership, particularly through its expansion into China and its provision of market intelligence.
Swiss Re's sponsorship of the Atlas of Natural Catastrophes of China by Beijing Normal University, and of a series of Mortality Studies by Shanghai's Fudan University, were among the achievements lauded by the judges. They also had praise for the company's role in catastrophe securitization such as the Formosa Re Cat Bond, and its various demonstrations of corporate social responsibility around the region.
The Reinsurer of the Year Award was sponsored by Arthur J Gallagher, and was one of 12 Awards presented that evening. These included awards for the life insurer (Thai Life Insurance) and general insurer of the year (Fubon Insurance).
