Swiss Re names Russell Higginbotham Head of Life & Health for Japan and Korea

Tokyo, 19 May 2004 - Swiss Re announced the appointment of Russell Higginbotham to head its Life & Health Business Group for Japan and Korea. He takes over from John Lockyer, who retires in July 2004. Mr Higginbotham will become a member of the Life Executive Team, Asia, which is responsible for the development and implementation of initiatives in the life and health reinsurance markets throughout the Asia region.

Since joining Swiss Re in 1994, Mr Higginbotham has held a range of strategic posts in both Europe and Asia. He joined Swiss Re in the UK and became Business Development Manager with responsibility for some of the largest UK client accounts, including the leading bancassurance account. He was a member of the Life, Health Business Group's Strategic Planning team, working on a range of initiatives at global level working with Swiss Re's Life Executive Board. He also spent two years as Head of New Business for Swiss Re in the UK.
Since May 2002, Mr Higginbotham has been responsible for Swiss Re's Life, Health operations in Japan, where he heads up a team of underwriters, marketers and actuaries, and was integral in driving the business's transition from a representative office to full branch status. He will take over responsibility for the Life, Health business in Korea from Mr Lockyer.
Mr Higginbotham will continue to report to Jean-Michel Chatagny, Swiss Re's Head of Asia and Global Clients and Member of the Life Executive Board for the Life, Health Business Group.
Mr Higginbotham has a BA(Hons) Degree in Business and Marketing and an MBA from Henley Management College, specialising in Business Finance. He began his career at a direct life office in the UK before moving into the reinsurance field in 1991.
