Michel Liès, along with several Swiss Re executives, position Swiss Re as a knowledge company and industry leader in Brazil

April 2011 - On March 24 and 25, market leaders convened in Rio at Reactions’ 3rd Annual Brazilian Reinsurance Conference to discuss how to sustain a profitable reinsurance market and continue maximizing the potential of the booming Brazilian economy. Nearly 300 delegates met to stay informed of the key issues and meet new clients.

Under this framework, Michel Liès opened the conference with a presentation addressing key topics: the development of the Brazilian reinsurance marketplace since the liberalization; how reinsurance is a catalyst for economic growth; and what the market challenges are going forward.

Later that day, Luciano Carmona, Senior Underwriter Agriculture, and Jose Cullen, Vice President of Special Risk, UBF participated in a panel:  “Brazil the agriculture powerhouse: Reaping the benefits of the subsidy program and state catastrophe fund”. They joined panelists talking about the state catastrophe insurance fund and explored other ways the subsidies program could support agriculture insurance.

Erika Schoch, Marine Manager Latin America, moderated a panel focused on specialty lines: marine and energy. The discussion focused on the need for catering to complex operations among Brazilian import and export companies and examined the effects of recent claims on pricing.

Iván González, Head of Corporate Solutions Latin America, participated in the panel “Insuring large scale projects”. Here, participants addressed the question of how developers can access capacity and mitigate construction risks.

Hernán Fatone, Head L&H UW WSE Regional Markets, also took part in a panel – this one aimed at exploring profitable opportunities in life products. Fatone used this opportunity to talk about sales channels and innovative solutions including Swiss Re’s teleunderwriting initiative.

In the evening, Swiss Re offered an exclusive client dinner at Rio de Janeiro Country to celebrate its 100 years of operations in America Latina.
