Swiss Re explores new horizons for agricultural insurance in Mexico

On October 27, 2011 Swiss Re hosted the "who's who" of Mexico's agricultural insurance industry at an event at the Hotel Brick in Mexico City's marvelous Colonia Roma district. The goal: explore new horizons for agricultural insurance in the area with emphasis on income insurance, already an established product in other countries within the region.

With many major business players present, Swiss Re's Richard Schneider, Regional Head of Mexico and Central America, welcomed clients and guests, including representatives from insurance funds, insurance companies, consultants and government officials.

Swiss Re Senior Underwriter Cristina Ribeiro introduced the audience to the world of agricultural insurance on a global scale, taking attendees on a quick "tour" across the most important regions while explaining the income insurance operation in the United States and Brazil. Swiss Re's Reto J. Schneider, Director of the Agricultural Insurance area for Europe, Africa and the Americas, also took part and shared additional insights into income insurance.

The event came to a close following a lively discussion among attendees who were given the opportunity to express their opinions about income insurance. The result: a highly professional debate that generated different points of view useful to Swiss Re in developing agricultural insurance for this area going forward.
