Episode 8: Malware Event at MedStar Health: Risk Management Considerations
The largest risk management event in North America offered Swiss Re Corporate Solutions an opportunity to reinforce with clients our value proposition based upon large net capacities, financial strength, innovation and disciplined cycle management.
Few cities in the US have the historic legacy of Philadelphia. The Founding Fathers of the US signed here the nation's Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. The city even acted as the national capital from 1790 to 1800 while Washington, DC was being built.
In all those events, there's an underlying motive of fraternity and sense of belonging. Now in 2012, the City of Brotherly Love, as Philadelphia is affectionately called, hosted the largest 'fraternity' of risk management professionals in North America as they attended the 42nd Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Annual Conference & Exhibition from 15 to 18 April 2012.
Swiss Re Corporate Solutions had a strong presence with several members of the management team as well as key underwriters and client executives who had a very busy agenda meeting customers and brokers to discuss a wide array of topics, including market outlook, footprint expansion, new product offerings and our long-term commitment to serve the needs of clients.

A partner of choice
The Swiss Re Corporate Solutions activities were kicked off by Rudi Flunger, Head of Regions & Specialty, who welcomed a copious group of clients and brokers at Philadelphia's Perelman Theatre to enjoy a great performance by contemporary swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

"We want to become your partner of choice when you look for a financially strong, stable and consistent partner that has underwriting excellence, superior claims services and a long term commitment to clients at its core," he added.
This year, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions had two speakers at RIMS industry sessions. Stanley Cochrane, Head of Mining & Energy Onshore, participated in a panel of experts who discussed how risk managers in the mining and smelting industries can adapt to a changing market in an industry that has been hard hit in recent times by natural catastrophes. Tom Phillipson, Head of Contingency & Crime, shared the stage to talk about the extent of crime in the workplace, which industry segments are most exposed, and how to mitigate losses — from simple theft to large-scale bribery or corruption.
Swiss Re Corporate Solutions executives also had a busy agenda with the media. Interviews had started prior to RIMS and continued through the conference and beyond. Industry leading publications, including Risk and Insurance, Insurance Journal, Reactions, Business Insurance, Middle East Insurance Review, Insurance Insider, National Underwriter, and Risk Management talked to our leaders on topics such as our expansion in the US Property middle and upper-middle market, our Renewable Energy solutions, innovative Business Continuity Expense coverage, and products for Directors & Officers Liability as well as our Mining expertise. Even topics which are non-US specific, such as our global Marine expansion and the opening of our Dubai branch drew attention from specialized media at RIMS.

The commitment of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions to be close to clients is probably demonstrated by one number: 10 members of the management team made the trip to Philadelphia to spend time with clients and brokers.
