Swiss Re Corporate Solutions adds insurance dimension to 2015 ICC Banking Commission Meeting

The ICC Banking Commission is the largest commission of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), with 80 years of experience and more than 600 members in over 100 countries. It is also one of the most respected bodies in the field of trade finance.

The ICC Banking Commission organises annual meetings that bring together bankers, business leaders and finance experts, along with executives from international organisations, to promote dialogue and develop trade finance best practices throughout the world.

This year, in conjunction with Singapore's 50th anniversary celebration as a nation, the annual meeting took place on 20–23 April 2015 at Raffles Convention Centre in Singapore.  The event also marked the launch of the first global ICC Academy, to be headquartered in Singapore.  Swiss Re Corporate Solutions with its Credit & Surety team was invited as a silver sponsor and the only insurer attending.

The conference theme was "Competency & Expertise: Driving Transformation in Trade Finance".

Albert Lim, Head Credit & Surety Hub APAC, participated in a panel on " Trade Credit Adjudication and Approval: A Practical View from the Experts". The panellists talked about how trade financiers need to better understand their key partners, such as credit and risk specialists.

In Lim's words, "The meeting was very successful indeed and the fact that we were the only insurers among the sponsors really made a difference.  It recognised the relevance of our capabilities and offerings to effectively support the banks in the development of trade finance".

The event was a joint project with the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) and International Enterprise Singapore (IES), the trade agency-arm of the Singapore Government and was recognised by the organisers as their most successful yet, with more than 600 delegates attending from 57 countries.
