Christopher James Baumgartner has over 35 years of experience as an insurance claims professional, handling insurance-related claims in the United States and globally with five major insurance carriers and two law firms. He has managed claims within multiple industry practices and lines of business including the construction, oil and gas, chemical, agricultural and pharmaceutical industries with a particular focus on complex claims and coverage litigations involving construction and design, toxic torts, environmental pollution, energy and natural resources and general liability issues.
Mr. Baumgartner has lectured and presented on various claim related topics in Europe and in the United States including casualty claim handling with the Swiss Re Academy in Zurich, Switzerland. He has consulted on a study in support of the European Union on civil liability, financial security and compensation claims for offshore oil & gas activities under Article 39 of the Offshore Safety Directive (OSD, 2013/30/EU) and written numerous white papers on construction and oil and gas related topics as well as authored an article on construction and mold related issues for the Asian Insurance Journal, Insurance and Risk Professional.
Mr. Baumgartner joined Swiss Re in 2003 managing globally energy and natural resource liability claims and took over the management of the construction professional indemnity claims in 2004. He has been managing construction claims for more than 28 years.
Mr. Baumgartner received a Bachelor Degree in Business from the State University of New York in 1979 and Paralegal Certification from Adelphi University in 1980.
