Our environmental footprint

Reducing our environmental footprint

We take care to minimise the environmental impact of our operations. Innovative initiatives have allowed us to substantially reduce the CO2 emissions caused through our own operations and have encouraged our employees to reduce emissions privately. For procurement, we apply globally valid guidelines.

As a financial services provider, we do not cause large environmental impacts in our own operations. Yet we regard it as an inherent part of being a responsible company to minimise our direct environmental footprint. Reducing CO2 emissions, raising energy efficiency and procurement standards are priority areas of our efforts.

Cutting CO2 emissions is one of four elements of our climate change strategy. Over the years, we have launched some pioneering initiatives: through our Greenhouse Neutral Programme we have achieved a substantial reduction of our total emissions (-59% from 2003 to 2009), while the COYou2 Reduce and Gain Programme has inspired our employees to achieve emissions reductions privately.

We include our purchasing operations in our efforts. Globally valid sourcing and procurement guidelines help us choose goods and services that have a low environmental impact. For individual product groups we apply minimal standards that further specify requirements.
