2010 Corporate Responsibility Report: Committed to sustainable value creation

The report highlights our goal to create sustainable value for our stakeholders and society as a whole by using our risk expertise to help tackle environmental and social challenges head on.

Swiss Re has a proven track record in corporate responsibility and is known for environmental, social and ethical leadership. Our latest Corporate Responsibility Report shows this, highlighting achievements such as how our innovative risk transfer solutions helped improve insurance protection in emerging countries in 2010. In India, for example, we were involved in setting up a pioneering microinsurance programme that provides health insurance to more than 10 million low-income families.

The Report seeks to provide an honest and credible account of how we translate our commitment to corporate responsibility into tangible action. Dating back to over a decade, each year the publication outlines our strategic approach to this and reviews our achievements in the areas we have identified as key to creating sustainable, long-term value. These priority areas are: sustainable business solutions, risk management, risk dialogue, our environmental footprint, corporate citizenship and employee relations. The report evaluates our progress in terms of the specific goals we set for 2010 and states our targets for the current year.

Our Corporate Responsibility Report also serves as Swiss Re’s official “Communication on Progress” for the UN Global Compact and takes into account the voluntary guidelines for sustainability reporting issued by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
