While we hope claims are rare, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ claims team is highly rated and includes experienced attorneys who understand the demands of running an insurance agency, brokerage or law firm and are experienced in handling professional liability claims, in conjunction with an extensive panel of outside counsel. 

Within each team, individual members have primary and secondary responsibility for specific jurisdictions.  Consequently, your claim will be handled by someone familiar not only with your state or province but also the law, procedure, and the attorneys who regularly represent the interests of our insureds.

What you can expect when you have a potential claim 

When you report a matter to the claim department you should receive a telephone call within 48 hours. Generally, coverage under your policy will be confirmed. Your claims handler will ask you several questions about the report in order to become familiar with the facts of the situation. There is a good chance that the claims handler has prior experience with a similar claim. At the time the claim handler will advise you on anticipated next steps. In many instances our claim handlers are able to assist in the early resolution of a matter without the need to resort to litigation.

If your claim is litigated counsel will be engaged for your defense. The attorneys retained on your behalf specialize in the defense of insurance and legal professionals. In many instances these attorneys have been handling these type of claims for 10, 20 or more years. Even when counsel is retained our claim handlers continue to proactively manage the litigation process.
