Life & Health guidelines

Underwriting Life & Health insurance applications requires specialist skills and expert tools.

Meeting our clients’ underwriting needs

At a strategic level, we help our clients to develop a holistic underwriting philosophy to ensure that the interaction of different risks is considered during the underwriting procedure. We also advise on optimising the costs and benefits of the underwriting process and maintaining adequate risk management protocols.

At an operational level, we can provide a tailored underwriting service, including offering specialist knowledge of medical issues, conducting underwriting audits and facultative case assessment – where we are able to provide a swift decision on offering capacity. Through seminars and individual company workshops, we are committed to providing professional training and development for our clients, aimed at building a sound knowledge base of best underwriting practice.

Our underwriting services

Our services in the underwriting arena include Life Guide, our comprehensive global internet-based underwriting manual, and Magnum, Swiss Re’s point-of-sale underwriting system.

Produced by our global team of dedicated physicians, researchers, statisticians and underwriters, our guidelines deliver the results of our latest research and include vital tools and information for underwriters at all levels of experience.

Life Guide is a highly valuable tool for the day-to-day underwriting assessment and decision-making process, especially our calculators which enables the rating of complex risk combinations.

Med eGuide is Swiss Re’s new medical expense underwriting guidelines which gives underwriters specific guidance in this specialised, but growing product line.

These guidelines are only available to our clients through a secure internet connection. For more information please contact your Swiss Re representative.
