Swiss Re Asia Claims Conference

Swiss Re Asia Claims & Liabilities hosted its inaugural P&C Claims Conference in Singapore from 22-23 September 2010. Aptly themed "Looking beyond the horizon", the conference prompted participants to think some way ahead about developing risks and industry hurdles, and possible solutions for future claims and liability management.

This Swiss Re conference attracted a record attendance of more than 200 senior insurance managers and claims leaders from Southeast Asia, India, Japan, Korea and Australia.

To encourage constant and active audience participation, all delegates were equipped with an electronic 'voting' communicator power pad, which permitted the speakers to seek audience feedback instantly, during their presentations.

Swiss Re offered a broad range of subjects, including a financial review of the Asian insurance industry; climate change; the growing quest for energy and its associated risk transfer; the massive claims posed by the semiconductor industry; fraud; solvency requirements and how to unlock capital from claims; the latest critical legal developments in product liability and regional changes in the D&O arena.

Jonathan Isherwood, Global Division Head of Claims & Liabilities, delivered the welcome address. Other Swiss Re experts included Clarence Wong, Head of Economic Research & Consulting Asia; Jyoti Majumdar, Natural Catastrophe Specialist; Beat Schnegg, Head of Liability Management; Andrew Covel, Director, Client Markets; and Kimberly Beaudreau, Vice President, Special Investigation Unit.

A number of distinguished speakers and well-known experts in their respective fields also shared their knowledge at the conference. They included James Maguire, AON Risk Services, Asia; Scott Armstrong, Werlinger & Associates, USA; Christopher Sharrock, Kennedys, Hong Kong; Ewan Cresswell, Integra Technical Services Ltd, London; Michael Murphy, Severson & Werson, USA; John Yacoub, Morrison Mahoney LLP, USA; Aruno Rajaratnam, Willis Group; Chan Hwee Seng, Crawford & Company; Abdul Rashid Ghani, Khattar Wong & Partners, and Violet Chia, Kemper & Associates LLP.

The conference, which extended over one and a half days, was extremely well received and served to raise Swiss Re's profile and commitment to delivering excellent products as well as providing a forum to share technical expertise across the Asian insurance and claims communities.

Listen to what some of the delegates had to say:

"The topics in the conference were very informative. Thank you for sharing your resources and expertise with us. More power to our partnership."

"The conference was really well organized and I very much enjoyed it. The topics are truly “looking beyond the horizon” and well presented."

"The quality of presentations and the general organization was of a very high order. I keenly look forward to similar events by Swiss Re in future!"

"I think that it was a win on many fronts - not least the content of the presentations, the location and organizational skills - and the numbers are a testament to this! Many thanks for an informative and entertaining couple of days."

"I thoroughly enjoyed the program and the quality of the presentations. Congratulations to you and your team. It was a great success."
