Announcement on Swiss Re's new Head of Reinsurance China and China Country President

We are pleased to inform you of the appointment of John Donghui Chen as our new Head of Reinsurance China and China Country President for Swiss Re, effective 1 June 2016. He will also take up the position of General Manager of Beijing Branch, which is subject to the regulatory approval.

John's extensive experience, and his strong strategic and leadership skills, make him an excellent choice for this role. John has about 20 years of experience primarily working in the insurance industry in both China and overseas.

John is no stranger to the China insurance industry.  He was most recently the Chief Actuarial Officer & Member of the Executive Committee of PICC P&C with responsibility for product development, pricing strategy and significant involvement in the company's strategic decision-making processes. Prior to his latest role, he was General Manager, Product Development for PICC P&C and has worked for PICC P&C for about 11 years in total.  John also served on the Solvency Standard Board and other working committees of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, including involvement in the development of C-ROSS standards in China. He has established solid relationships across both the Life and Non-life sectors.

Before PICC P&C, John worked with Deloitte/Finity Consulting as Senior Consultant based in Sydney for about two years, responsible for consulting assignments in innovative pricing methods, customer insights analysis, predictive modelling, risk margin evaluation and capital modelling.  He also spent some years with CGU Insurance (part of IAG) based in Melbourne and with Airbus Industries based in Beijing/Toulouse.

John holds a PHD in Econometrics from Monash University, Australia and a BSc in Applied Maths from Tsinghua University, China.

I very much look forward to working with John and our entire China team to continue to meet client needs and support the sustainable development of the China insurance industry, by providing our expertise, differentiated solutions and client-centric services. John will be based in Beijing and will join the Asia Management Team in this role.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank Robert Wiest for doubling up as the interim Head of Reinsurance China during this transitional period.  He rose to the challenge at a time of need for our clients and I am grateful for this selfless act.  Robert will work closely with John once he is on board to ensure a very smooth handover.

Thank you for your continuous support.

Best regards,

Moses Ojeisekhoba
