A powerful partnership: Swiss Re extends commitment to Girl Scouts

On March 12, Swiss Re announced it is creating a special partnership with Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson that will include a significant contribution over several years, as well as a volunteering and student mentoring program for Armonk employees.

Donna Kinnaird, President of Americas Life & Health, announced the partnership at the Girl Scouts 2008 Community Partnership luncheon in Tarrytown, New York, during which Swiss Re was given the 2008 Leadership Award. The annual event is attended by representatives of companies located in the Hudson Valley region that support the Girl Scouts.

"This partnership will help accelerate the great leadership and character development work being done by the Girl Scouts in our community," explained Kinnaird, "and the volunteering program will be a new opportunity for us at Swiss Re to make a difference."

"I strongly believe in the power of female leadership," she continued. "We have a responsibility to support the emotional and intellectual development of all young people, both boys and girls. However, I firmly believe societies can change at their very core when you educate and provide economic opportunity to young women. We can fix a lot of problems in this world by educating girls and building their self esteem."

Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson serves more than 34,000 girls throughout seven counties in the Hudson Valley region of New York state. As a major corporate citizen of Westchester county, Swiss Re has supported the Girl Scouts for the past four years.

Swiss Re applauds the Girl Scouts for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and collaboration, and we share their enthusiasm and passion for improving neighborhoods, communities and the world.
