1:1 with Evelyn Chow
Eighteen months into her role as Appointed Actuary P&C for Australia and New Zealand, Evelyn Chow reflects on the role actuaries play in the value chain of an organisation.
Wow - 2016 seems to be the year that keeps on giving! Only four days to go till Xmas as I write this and still so much to do!
A huge year for the life insurance industry with some big M&A deals, plenty of regulatory and media interest in the sector and a new Code of Practice to guide us.
The key to enhancing the industry reputation issues continue to be ensuring we have the customer at the centre of everything we do.
As reinsurers we have been tested this year by our clients on alignment and making sure that we don’t stand in the way of delivering good customer outcomes. It's never our intention to do this but nevertheless a timely reminder that we are all part of the same chain when it comes to customer expectations.
At Swiss Re we have had a challenging but positive year. It's been good to see the Group market recover and it's now up to all of us to make sure the problems of the past don’t re-surface.
We want to take a more active stance in the market in telling the good news stories for our industry including the benefits of rehabilitation and return to good work, and the role life insurance plays generally in helping people recover from setbacks and traumatic life events.
This year we have also invested a lot of time and energy into understanding the implications to society of an ageing population. This problem is not unique to Australia of course so we've connected with our global colleagues on what's happening in other markets to bring additional insights to bear on possible solutions to this very critical challenge. Please reach out to your client manager if you'd like to hear more on our research and the emerging propositions in this space.
So 2017 holds plenty of promise for the life insurance industry to collectively step up to make Australia more resilient- the global Swiss Re vision. An achievement we can only realise together with our clients!
So it remains for me to say a big THANK YOU for your support in 2016 and wish you a very well earned break over the holidays with your family and friends!
The whole team at Swiss Re Life & Health look forward to working with you again in 2017!
