“Be first, be fast, be favourite”: meet Robert Burr, new Head of Life & Health Asia

Robert Burr
Head of Life & Health Asia

Veteran life and health insurance marketer Robert Burr joins Swiss Re as Managing Director, Head of Life & Health Asia, complementing our senior L&H leadership team. With more than two decades of experience working in various Asia markets, Robert is definitely an asset to Swiss Re, and most importantly to our clients, as we strengthen our health reinsurance client service and marketing activities.

Robert, could you tell us about your previous work experience in Asia?

I’ve had my footprints across Asia over the past 20 years, working with global primary insurers in the region. Before joining Swiss Re in July 2011, I had been working with global primary insures in the region, including my last role as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Sun Life Financial, Asia based in Hong Kong since 2007. Prior to that, I worked with AIG Life, Cigna International and Prudential.

Before joining primary insurers, I held regional management roles within global marketing and advertising agencies based in Southeast Asia, including Foote Cone & Belding Worldwide Advertising and Ogilvy & Mather Direct.

How will your previous work experience benefit Swiss Re clients?

As a reinsurer, we should understand not only the needs of our clients, but also the needs of our clients’ clients. My primary insurance and marketing experience makes me particularly well suited for this client-servicing role. I hope to bring new perspectives to the company, enabling all of us to put ourselves in the shoes of our clients and help them succeed in their business.

What is your priority?

My priority is meeting our clients, understanding their needs and delivering the best service. We will continue to focus on delivering expertise and improving our service; we will work with the regional team to provide appropriate and innovative solutions to our clients.

What is your ambition for Swiss Re?

My ambition is for the company to be fast, to be the first and to be the favourite of clients. It’s all about the clients.

Personally, what do you like most and least in Asia?

I like to eat and I like Asian food very much (perhaps too much).

What I like least is the heavy traffic, especially since I spend most of my time on the road en route to meet clients and I sometimes find myself hopelessly stuck in traffic for hours.

Cheesecake or chocolate?

Mmm Cheesecake or Chocolate? I would have to say both!!
