Ethisphere, a leading international think tank has named Swiss Re one of the world’s most ethical companies for 2011, the third consecutive year Swiss Re has been included. The result of this year’s accolades was announced at Ethisphere’s annual Global Ethics Summit, which was held in New York on March 15 and 16.

Ethisphere began identifying the world’s most ethical companies in 2007. Each year, the organization highlights companies that promote ethical business standards and practices by going above and beyond the required legal minimum.

The annual listing recognizes companies that have a strong corporate governance and responsibility in place, that invest in innovation, quality and sustainable business practices contributing to the public well being and force their competitors to follow suit. Furthermore, only companies that have strong and visible executive leadership on ethics, corporate responsibility and citizenship and that have internal systems and ethics/compliance programs in place to ensure continuity of desired institutional behavior, are eligible.

Many of the nominations come from external third parties and are then assessed by the 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies advisory panel which includes Ethisphere editors and researchers, as well as attorneys, government officials, professors and other leaders who care about ethical and honest business practices.
