Swiss Re ANZ named ANZIIF Women's Council Employer of the Year

In recognition of our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, Swiss Re was named Women's Council Employer of the Year at the 2014 Australian Insurance Industry Awards, held in Sydney on 20 August 2014.

The awards were hosted by the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIFF) and Asia Insurance Review

Mark Senkevics, Head of ANZ, thanked the local team on accepting the award, recognising the work the business is undertaking to creating a diverse and inclusive environment that empowers each and every individual.

Mark said: "This is one step in our journey of developing a truly diverse workforce. Our vision is to feel and see diversity at all levels, functions and regions of the organisation. We believe the way to achieve this is by creating an inclusive culture that places high value on diversity of thought and opinion, through inclusive leaders, managers and employees."

Swiss Re was selected for the award following nominations from the industry, reviewed by a panel of local and international judges. Finalists included Allianz Australia and Suncorp. Here is what some of the judges had to say:

Swiss Re has been selected…due to their successful initiatives which are designed to develop and retain their female staff and encourage female leadership progression…In 2013, their "Women Leading Swiss Re" development program was launched…The program encompasses both the needs of more senior women with leadership programs and the development of high-potential junior women.

The judges were equally impressed with…their "Own the Way You Work" program. This gives staff autonomy to decide how, when and where they work. It has resulted in a culture where post-maternity leave return-to-work rates sit at an impressive 100%. Other flexible work arrangements…have been successfully implemented…to help build retention levels for the longer term.

Overall the judges felt that Swiss Re has successfully proven that they have long-term commitment to the progression of their female staff. They are a solid example of a company adhering to the UN's Womens' Empowerment principles.

This recognition confirms that we are on the right track when it comes to our journey towards a truly inclusive and diverse workplace.
