Stefan Lippe and ILS team win awards
Stefan Lippe has been named 2011 Reinsurance CEO of the Year by Reactions magazine, a leading global publication that covers the insurance and reinsurance industry. Swiss Re also won ILS Adviser of the Year. The awards were announced at a ceremony in New York on 27 September.
The awards are decided by Reactions' editorial panel, guided by reader polling and conversations with market participants and analysts.
Michael Loney, managing editor at Reactions said: “Mr Lippe was chosen for his decisive leadership since 2009 in turning around the firm from the issues it was facing. This has continued in the past 12 months through achievements such as paying back the convertible loan from Warren Buffett early and catastrophe losses that were impressively low relative to shareholders funds.”
In an acceptance video pre-recorded for the event, Lippe said: “It’s a great honour to receive this award and I’d like to thank my more than 10,000 colleagues at Swiss Re whose hard work and diligence have made this possible.
“This will give me more motivation to do even better, to strengthen our commitment to our clients, to our employees, the communities we serve and of course to our shareholders.”
Swiss Re won best ILS Adviser of the Year in recognition for a number of innovative transactions.
The Reactions Global Awards are in their 10th year. In recent years Swiss Re has picked up a variety of accolades, winning Best Global Life Reinsurer and Best ILS Transaction in 2009. In 2008, Swiss Re was named Best Global Reinsurer in both Life and Non-Life categories.
