IAIS honors Walter Bell for his service
The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has presented its Distinguished Fellow Award to Swiss Re America Holding Corporation Chairman Walter Bell in recognition of his work with the organization.
The Distinguished Fellow Award, given annually, recognizes persons who have contributed significantly to IAIS activities. The award was established in 2004.
Criteria for nomination include being a former chairman of an IAIS working party or a former supervisor from one of the 190 jurisdictions represented by the IAIS, who has played a significant role in successfully completing substantial work for the IAIS or has provided outstanding services to the IAIS.
Mr. Bell actively served on a number of IAIS Committees in previous years, including Vice-Chair of the IAIS Executive Committee, Technical Committee, Budget Committee and Financial Outlook Task Force. He actively promoted the work of the IAIS in many international locations and was instrumental in creating awareness of the IAIS in many jurisdictions.
Mr. Bell, who left the IAIS in 2008, was given the award by IAIS Chairman Peter Braumüller at the General Meeting in Dubai recently.
Mr. Bell said: “I am delighted and humbled to be recognized in this way by an organization that does such vital work to maintain efficient, fair and stable insurance markets for the benefit and protection of policyholders.”
The IAIS was established in 1994 and represents insurance regulators and supervisors of some 190 jurisdictions in nearly 140 countries and also has more than 120 insurance professionals, insurers, reinsurers and trade associations as observers.
